Furniture Restoration – Repair drawers, including cutting in new timber to replace worn parts and fitting new drawer guides and stops. Repair splits on cabinet sides using cedar fillets shaped to fit and glued into place. Birch Restorations had new knobs specially manufactured to match the original 4 remaining knobs.
Birch Restorations then hand stripped the old polish and removed the water marks and stains whilst maintaining the original patina. To finish the now rejuvenated chest of drawers a final French polish and wax was applied. Refer images (Before and After)
To restore a piece of furniture (furniture restoration) you need the skills of the original furniture maker. You need to know the character of the materials used to make it. You need to be able to graft in new materials where the old have deteriorated beyond repair.
Antique dealers have let the Birch Restorations team pull antiques apart (and put them back together) for years. Birch Restorations have mastered the techniques, styles and materials of each period. They will match the character, colour and patina of the original timbers from their stores of old wood and match details for authenticity
It’s this expertise and attention to details that has won Birch Restoration repeat business from antique dealers and restorers, as well as the individuals who have entrusted Birch Restorations with their most precious pieces of furniture to repair.
